MARIE DESIR
Marie is a Filipino part-time ceramic designer and potter.
In 2014, she moved to Denmark in pursuit of love and adventure where she also came across an eccentric ceramic shop full of mugs that took her down to childhood memory lane-teacups that looked as if tiles in monochrome colours of black and white trailing around the cup. The pattern conjured up an image of her siblings and cousins watching "Cartoon Network" on a lazy weekend, she thought.
She knew right then and there that making pots is something that she'd take on as she realised in some ways it evokes a feeling of nostalgia. On her holiday trip to Japan in 2018 where she had her first drive on the wheel, she never looked back since.
She is predominantly self-taught. Being away from home, she takes inspiration from her feelings, experiences, memories from her native, Philippines, and the modern simplicity that Scandinavia has taught her. She carefully makes each unique piece by hand, creating functional everyday items to decorative style objects for your home. She puts her heart and soul into skillfully moulding them for you to treasure forever.
She now lives in London with her husband where she continues to learn more about the beautiful craft of hand-building and throwing clay.
